Letter from the SGA President

Dear Wheaton students, faculty and staff!

Welcome back to our beautiful campus for what I’m sure will be a year filled with growth, new friendships and new opportunities. This first month at school has assuredly been a busy one. Freshmen are adjusting to their new way of life; sophomores and juniors are gearing up to fulfill their majors and to enrich their time at Wheaton with internships and experiences abroad; and all the while seniors are grappling with the fact that we’ll be swimming around in the “real world” in just a few months.

So, amidst all of these changing dynamics on campus and around the world, I’ll make one request of you all: Take. It. In. This means fully participating in your community or communities. When every single person engages in the endeavor of making change and allows democracies to work the way they were designed to work, only accurate representation can be the result.

A good way to make sure you are doing your part and developing Wheaton into the ideal institution for students is by staying informed (hint: read the Wire!!) and consequently making your voice heard if you see or experience something that you feel needs to be changed. Come to Senate meetings, join clubs that focus on the issues you are passionate about, take a class on a topic for which you’ve always had a curiosity. Use this time to expand your worldview and your capacity for creating positive change. This is our training ground, folks! Use it wisely.

Of course, let’s not forget that this time in our lives should be FUN. While I’m sure we’re all up to our eyeballs in stress worrying about assignments, responsibilities and future plans, try to take a few minutes every day to do something you love. Happy students make for a happier campus!
