SGA votes on changes to the dining plans

Changes to the dining plans in response to student concerns were presented to the Student Government Association yesterday. The presenters were Vice President of Finance and Administration Brian Douglas, Director of Dining Services John Bragel and Manager of Business Services Kim Lavallee.

“I think that we’ve been able to address a lot of the concerns we’ve been hearing,” Douglas said.

The changes included the announcement that Chase Dining Hall will be open from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Food items offered during those hours will largely be similar to those offered during late night hours at Chase before its renovation, including burgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese and french fries. The salad bar will also be offered.

Emerson Dining Hall will remain open until midnight, but dinner service will now end at 7 p.m.

Alexander Gim-Fain ’17 asked Douglas why Chase would not be open until midnight, as it once was.

“What we’ll take out of Emerson in terms of dining and cost, we’ll put into Chase,” Douglas said.

Other announcements, recorded on a sheet that was passed around to members of the Student Government Association, included a new website that Aramark has set up to allow students to check their Lyons Bucks balances and add more bucks.

In addition, the “Lyons Swipe” option on the dining plan has been expanded, and Lyons Swipes now cover made-to-order salads and sandwiches available in Emerson.

All senators and class representatives present voted in favor of the dining plan changes except for one, who abstained. The executive board does not vote.
