There is a new addition to the Filene Center for Academic Advising & Career Services. Sally Riconscente is the new Associate Dean for Access Services and Academic Support. This new position was established after the departure of Eileen Bellemore, the former Coordinator for Disability Services. Dean Riconscente is available to meet with students to discuss any academic accommodations and support they may need during the semester.
Dean Riconscente came to Wheaton from Bryant University where she was the Assistant Director of the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) and was responsible for providing academic support to students with disabilities. In addition, Sally is an adjunct professor in the Psychology Department at Bryant University and Bristol Community College. Outside the academic setting, Dean Riconscente has been both the President and a board member of the New England Association of Higher Education and Disability and an active participant on the Rhode Island Advisory Committee on Higher Education and Disability.
With Dean Riconscente’s appointment, Janice Sklensky, assistant professor in the Mathematics Department, will be coordinating the peer tutoring program. Professor Sklensky is the point person for the program as she will hire, supervise and support peer tutors. In addition, Ruth Foley, visiting assistant professor of the English Department, has partnered with Professor Sklensky to support the peer writing tutors.
