On the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 13, the Beard & Weil Galleries were filled with an audience eager to hear visiting artist Irina Muresanu, on the violin, and Professor of Music Ann Sears, on the piano, perform classical pieces for the violin and piano.
The evening started with Mozart’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, followed by Debussy’s Sonate pour violin et piano. Then, after a short intermission, they performed the Sonata for Violin and Piano, also known as the “Kreutzer Sonata.” Muresanu compared choosing the program to planning a nice dinner, and referred to the Debussy piece as “the dessert.”
Although the gallery may have seemed to be a unique place to host a concert, it proved to be a wonderful place to enjoy an evening full of music. The artifacts from the “100 Years, 100 Objects” exhibition complimented the atmosphere as the music of the violin and piano filled the room, enchanting the audience members.
The students in the audience were deeply impressed with the performances of the night. “It was really good…I was very impressed by the Debussy,” commented Honting Wong ’16. Inspired by the beautiful music, Emma Cavaliere ’16 noted, “You stop feeling everything except for what you’re hearing.”
It was truly a wonderful evening not only for those who enjoy classical music, but also for those who appreciate the mastery it takes to perform music with such talent and passion.
