Wheaton Offers Group Fitness Classes

Image result for yogaStarting September 21, Wheaton Athletics will be offering five group exercise courses available to all students. These courses were proposed by Judy Allen, Assistant Director for Club Sports, Intramurals and Fitness Centers, and the funding was secured by Katie Elliott, Alex Gim-Fain, Sarah Hilton and Arielle Klopsis in student government.

Yoga will be taught on Sundays from 6:30 – 7:30pm in the Wooley Room, and on Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8:30pm in Chapel Basement. This course advertises traditional yoga postures, breathing exercises and guided meditation. Chair support is offered to ease students into the practice.

Cardio Hip Hop will be taught on Wednesdays from 6 – 7pm in Chapel Basement. Cardio Hip Hop is described as “A heart-pumping cardio dance party that’s a full body workout!”

Cardio Kick Boxing will be taught from on Thursdays from 12:30 – 1:30pm in Chapel Basement. Focusing on interval training, Cardio Kick Boxing incorporates elements from aerobics, kickboxing and dance.

Additionally, starting on October 18, “Strong” will be taught Tuesdays from 6 – 7pm in Chapel Basement. Strong is a music-led fitness program designed by Zumba Fitness LLC. Similar to Cardio Hip Hop, “Strong” will incorporate guided fitness accompanied by latin music. Allen hired two licensed instructors from Norton and surrounding communities to head these classes.

“I am very excited for this new opportunity for all Wheaton students with this group exercise initiative. You don’t have to belong to a club or sports team to participate. If you have no experience it doesn’t matter,” says Allen. “This is just a fun new way to stay healthy and active here at Wheaton!”

More information about these courses can be found on the Wheaton Athletics website under “Recreation.”
