An unidentified man attacked a female Wheaton student in a bathroom in the Young Dormitory Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. The man was reported to have fled the bathroom after the victim managed to get away.

The campus was alerted of the attack via an email from the Director of Campus Security, Chief Robert Windsor, approximately three hours after the attack occurred. Another email update was sent Wednesday afternoon that released no new information about the incident other than the stricter security measures being taken, such as an increase in the number of officers on campus. It has also been reported that a campus safety officer is currently posted outside the entrances of Young.

Critiques have come from students in regard to the delay in time between that of the incident’s occurrence and the campus-wide announcement email. Desired specifics of the incident have also been withheld from students, such as whether the attacker was a student or not.

This attack comes in the wake of multiple campus ‘bias incidents’ reported this semester that have yet to obtain closure, furthering tension and fear among students.

Students have been encouraged to contact public safety if they receive any information and to be alert of their surroundings until new developments are made.

The public safety office declined to provide any further information on the attack when inquired about.
