BREAKING NEWS: Norton voters elect Artz and Deveau to Select Board, reject charter change, and confirm tax hike to build new town facilities

Norton voters today decided to reject a proposed change to the form of town government. Voters decided to keep the current town meeting structure by a vote total of 1148 for and 1775 opposed.

Norton voters today decided to reject a proposed change to the form of town government. Voters decided to keep the current town meeting structure by a vote total of 1148 for and 1775 opposed.

Voters also decided to confirm a $41 million project to finance a new town hall and Senior Center, with a vote total of 1665 for and 1588 opposed.

Voters also decided to elect (incumbent Megan Artzand (incumbent Christine Deveau/ Megan Artz/ Frank Parker) to the two open, select board seats. Artz received 1705 votes, Deveau received 1439 votes, and Parker received 1240 votes.

Around half a dozen supporters held signs throughout the day opposing the charter commission change, and around a dozen supporters held signs supporting the change. Most of those holding signs supporting the charter change also held signs in favor of Frank Parker. Christine Devaeu was the only candidate holding signs for herself, and stated that it was, “great to see people out here supporting issues [and candidates]” they care about.

According to the Norton Town Clerk, Lucia Longhurst, there were a total of, “in the vicinity of 13,700” registered voters for this election, with a total of 3233 people voting today, which is a turnout of about 24%.
