Women’s Rugby season recap

The Wheaton Women’s Rugby team started off their 2019 fifteenth season with many new athletes mixed in with returning veterans. Last year was a challenging year with very few victories, so this year they were determined for success. Despite the concerning thought of not having enough athletes for the season and having two veterans abroad, the team racked up quite a few recruits eager to learn and full of passion for the sport.

The beginning of the season started off with rigorous practices four days a week and a couple of fitness days to get prepared for their first game of the season against Wentworth Institute of Technology. Despite the game being a slight loss, the Hotsteppers gave it their all for the rest of the season to overcome their initial loss. It was a successful season for the team as they came out far ahead in their previous three-victory season.

Next year, the team will miss their seniors, Maia Hay ’20, Maren Higgins ’20, Gizzy Spencer ’20, Leah Kihn ’20, Sophie Stoch ’20, Sienna Witherell ’20, Claire Albright ’20, and Natalee Davis ’20, but for now, they will be working hard to prepare for the upcoming season.
