The 2019 Lunar New Year Celebration

By Kavita Premkumar on February 21, 2019

The Lunar New Year celebration, sponsored by the Asian Student Association (ASA), was held on February 8, 2019. It included performances by several groups. The ASA invited two groups from Boston: The Boston Korean Traditional Dance Group as well as The Hung Gar Kung Fu and Lion Dance academy to perform Korean Fan and Drum dance and Lion Celebration Dance respectively. In addition, there were several performances by Wheaton students. Dolma Tsering Lama ‘22 and Tashi Norzom ‘22 choreographed a traditional Tibetan dance, and Boheng Zhang ‘22 sang the Chinese song “Ting Ge.” The newly formed Korean dance group, KAOS, performed “Shine” by Pentagon. The club also used the celebration as an opportunity to fundraise for the Catalyst Foundation, a non-profit organization that works in Vietnam to stop human trafficking.
