Pedestrian fatally hit by Amtrak train at Mansfield train station

A man was struck and killed by a northbound high-speed Amtrak train at the Mansfield train station on March 2 at 2:44 p.m. He has not yet been identified.

The train was heading to Boston and hit the pedestrian between the platform of the train station and the Mansfield chocolate factory. Witnesses confirm that a male had been spotted attempting to cross the tracks from Crocker Street.

Many vehicles parked in Crocker Street, River Street and Mansfield Avenue parking lots were affected by the fatality and were required to remain parked until pickup on March 4 at 3 p.m.

Amtrak train schedules were closed the following morning on March 3 and will continue to be closed until further notice. Mansfield Avenue has also been closed due to the accident.

The Mansfield Police Department responded to the incident. Those who responded as well as the Amtrak Police, Transit Police and the Massachusetts State Detective unit have been assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office for further investigation.
