Fox makes students stars for a day

By Adam Kilduff on October 1, 2014

FOX25_0428

Fox 25 broadcast its morning news from The Dimple on Friday, September 26. The station interviewed and showcased a variety of students and groups on campus from 6 to 10 in the morning.

Among those interviewed were President Dennis Hanno, SGA President JP Carando ’15, SGA Vice President Alicia Alvarez ’15 and Wheaton Wire Editor-in-Chief Alex Butcher-Nesbitt ’15.

The interview with Hanno attracted the most attention, with the interviewer mentioning the lack of men in the group behind the two of them and the fact that one of the students had said that her favorite thing about Wheaton is “all-day omelettes.”

He also said that he did not like the Lyon as Wheaton’s mascot and suggested “the winter warriors” instead.

When he was asked about changes he would like to make to Wheaton, the president said that the goal was not significant change, “but to take all the great stuff that’s here and raise the visibility of Wheaton College.”

A number of campus groups performed at the broadcast, including TRYBE and the Lymin’ Lyons.

The broadcast was the culmination of a number of segments that Fox 25 has been filming on the Wheaton campus for at least the past week. The administration heavily promoted the day, with a large number of campus groups being encouraged, mostly by email, to participate.

Dining Services set up an omelette stand and had made Wheaton M&M pancakes for the event. Dunkin Donuts also had a stand set up, where they served the students coffee.

The Fox 25 college tour will continue with stops at Holy Cross, Bentley University and UMass Amherst, among other places.
