As the weather heats up, so does the anticipation for another exciting season for the Wheaton College Ultimate Frisbee team. With trips planned to travel throughout the country, Wheaton’s team, named Lemony Fresh, is looking forward to another successful season throwing the disc.
The spring season kicks off at one of the largest ultimate Frisbee tournaments in the United States, based in the Golden Isles of Georgia. Hosting almost 200 teams, the High Tide tournament has been an annual highlight for the Wheaton squad. While the team competes against other squads, there are also opportunities for them to play with members of different teams. Hat tournaments, which place all players on random teams, are one of the highlights of the week. With almost 1,000 participants, Wheaton has the opportunity to play amongst some of the best athletes in the sport while also connecting with other college students from different regions of the country. These experiences, both competitively and socially, prime Lemony Fresh for their return to Massachusetts.
Wheaton also hosts a large tournament each year in Seekonk, MA. The tournament is comprised of competitive and hat tournaments, so teams have the opportunity to have fun and compete at the same time. Teams, like those from Providence College and Bridgewater State, jump at the opportunity to participate in this Wheaton-hosted tournament due to the strong competition and jovial atmosphere amongst the teams. With at least three games being played at all times, this is a can’t-miss event for any ultimate team.
Regardless of the outcome of the tournaments throughout the year, Wheaton always leaves on a positive note because their reputation in the ultimate frisbee world continues to grow.
